The Invicta Horse of Kent had its place on the shield for the Borough of Beckenham.
The two wavy lines represent the rivers Beck and Chaffinch that rise in West Wickham and the Shirley Hills respectively. They run separately until they join in Cator Park where they add their flow to the river Pool.
The two white horse chestnut trees were characteristic of the town's tree-lined roads.
Monks Orchard Rd was planted in the 1930's with both white and red horse chestnut trees..
